SUBJECT:    Reappointment of Frieder Seible as Dean of the
Jacobs School of Engineering

I am pleased to announce that, subsequent to a very successful five-year review, Chancellor Fox and I have reappointed Frieder Seible as Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering. Dean Seible has made significant contributions to strengthening the quality and increasing the visibility of the school during the past five years. Under his leadership, faculty recruitment has been strong; overall rankings for the school have improved; and fundraising has been very successful. Departments have grown in prestige and the school addressed the need for a new department, focused on materials science and engineering, with the formation of the Department of NanoEngineering.

We are enormously pleased that the Jacobs School of Engineering and the campus will continue to benefit from Dean Seible’s outstanding leadership. Chancellor Fox and I very much appreciate the review committee members’ thorough work, as well as their insightful suggestions as the school moves forward.

Please join us in thanking Dean Seible for his many contributions to the campus, both past and future.
