Appointment of Director – Physical Planning

Following a national search, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Brad Werdick as Director of Physical Planning. Brad has served as Acting Director since January 2008, filling the role previously held by Sue Peerson.

Since graduating from UC San Diego with a degree in Urban Studies and Planning, Brad has worked for consulting firms in the private sector and was responsible for the preparation of site planning feasibility studies and procurement of land use entitlements. Brad returned to UC San Diego in 2002 and his progressively increasing responsibilities more than attest to his outstanding performance, continued career growth and dedication to the University.

He has worked on a variety of state and non-state capital improvement projects and development of campus plans and policies. Brad’s professional and managerial skills make him exceptionally well suited to serve as Director, where some of his key responsibilities include implementation of the UCSD Long Range Development Plan (LRDP), UCSD Master Plan Study, and neighborhood planning studies, administration of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), evaluation of site options for major capital improvement projects, and development of new campus plans to guide future growth.
