ACADEMIC SENATE MEMBERS
Dear Colleagues, Many of you are aware of the Faculty Luncheon series orchestrated over the years by the late Muir Provost Patrick Ledden. I am pleased to announce that through the efforts of a faculty committee and support provided by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and the Faculty Club, the series was reinstated in 2004 and named for its initiator. The luncheon series is designed to provide informed presentations by UCSD faculty members on topics of general interest within a cordial environment. A complimentary lunch is served from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. in the Faculty Club, followed by the talk and a discussion period. The program adjourns about 1:15 p.m. Many faculty members who have attended in past years remark that these lunches provide one of the best opportunities available on campus to meet colleagues from other disciplines, as well as to hear discussions on topics of current interest. In particular, I would like to encourage new members of the faculty to attend as a way to become part of our community. The next two lunches in the series for academic year 2008-2009 will take place as follows: Tuesday, January 27, Prof. John Asmus, Art Nouveau & Paul Gauguin's Four Parisian Ladies Wednesday, February 18, Prof. Bard Cosman, Rivera, Kahlo & the Art of Surgery Please note that attendance is limited to the first 90 people to respond. Even if you cannot attend any of these luncheons, please let us know if you are interested in receiving future notices. Be aware that this letter may be the only notification you receive for the first luncheon on January 27. If you would like to attend, please make your reservations as soon as possible by email to phansen@ucsd.edu. Again, if you cannot attend on January 27, but would like to receive notices of subsequent lunches, please let Ms. Hansen know that as well. We hope to see you there.
