SUBJECT:    Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct, and

Conflict of Interest for Researchers Beginning next week, the University of California will launch an online Compliance Briefing for researchers at all UC locations.

The Briefing, which is mandatory, takes about 40-60 minutes to complete. It is designed to raise awareness of the University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct, and to convey University employment obligations with respect to ethical and compliant behavior. The purpose is not to teach University policy or ethics but to familiarize UC employees with important ethics and compliance information, issues and resources. In addition, this Briefing will satisfy funding agency requirements to train researchers on conflict of interest in the research setting.

The new Compliance Briefing was developed by a UC team of faculty and research staffs. The effort was headed by the UCOP Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services. The Briefing can be taken on any computer with Internet access and does not need to be completed in one sitting. As a UCSD researcher, you will receive an email from the UC Learning Center with a personalized link that will direct you to the new Compliance Briefing.

Additional information regarding the Compliance Briefing can be found on the Office of Research Affairs' website at http://research.ucsd.edu/ComplianceBriefingFAQ.htm in the Conflict of Interest section under the Training tab. You are required to complete the Compliance Briefing within 90 days. The Briefing will remain available to you for reference throughout the year.

Thank you for your cooperation in meeting this requirement.
