KEY ADMINISTRATORS / KEY SUPPORT STAFF

SUBJECT:    Health Sciences Development

We are writing to inform you that Greg Barrett, Associate Vice Chancellor for Development for Health Sciences, has accepted a position as President of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. Greg's last day at UC San Diego will be Friday, Jan. 16.

This was a difficult and heart-felt decision for Greg, as he has truly enjoyed his time at UC San Diego and was incredibly effective in his role. Throughout Greg's tenure, he has been a passionate advocate for the mission of the Division of Health Sciences and the Medical Center and an enthusiastic proponent of the power of philanthropy to enhance our reputation and support our mission of research, education, and clinical care. Most importantly, he has done much to prepare us to undertake a significant fundraising campaign in support of our many priorities, including the new bed tower on the East campus, the biomedical research building, the Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and the new Medicine Education building.

This is an exceptional career opportunity for Greg, and one that does not come along often. The fact that preeminent hospitals and health systems continue to look to us for talented leadership reflects well on UC San Diego Health Sciences and the UC San Diego campus as a whole.

In his new position, Greg will oversee all fundraising for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. The Foundation exists to provide financial support for the hospital's mission of excellence in patient care, teaching and research. Renowned for its outstanding clinical services, research programs and medical education, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has helped establish the standards of excellence in pediatric care and has been named consistently to several elite lists of pediatric health care facilities, including U.S. News & World Report.

Please join me in wishing Greg best wishes in his new role.
