SUBJECT:    Modifications to the UC Staff and Academic
Reduction in Time (START) Program

The UC Regents approved changes to the START program at their November meeting that are effective (retroactively) November 1, 2009. The program has been modified as follows:

-The end date of the program is extended through December 31, 2010.

-The 5 percent minimum reduction in time may be adjusted to a lower percentage when necessary in limited circumstances to accommodate implementation of the Salary Reduction/Furlough Plan for START participants.

-Probationary staff employees are eligible to participate in START during the Salary Reduction/Furlough Plan, subject to reassessment if the START Program is continued beyond December 31, 2010 or re-implemented at a future date.

All career staff employees (regular status and probationary) and all academic appointees, except those in faculty and student academic titles and Postdoctoral Scholars, are eligible to participate in START. For exclusively represented employees, participation in START is subject to collective bargaining.
