SUBJECT:    Search for Director of UCSD's Natural Reserve System
(NRS) Sites

A search for the Director of the UCSD Natural Reserve System sites is commencing, and I am pleased to invite applications and nominations for this position.

UCSD manages 4 of the 36 system-wide natural reserves. The reserves support university-level teaching, research, and public service throughout the State and are an important component of our stewardship responsibility for the citizens of California. Information about the Natural Reserve system may be viewed at: http://nrs.ucop.edu/.

The NRS Director oversees programmatic planning and fiscal and operational management of the UCSD reserves. The Director is supported in these efforts by faculty reserve managers, a staff reserves manager, and a reserves steward. The Director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research. S/he also works closely with the Director of the UC Natural Reserve System in the UC Office of the President.

Successful candidates must have a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service appropriate for the appointment and an interest in enhancing opportunities for research, teaching, and outreach through the NRS. Candidates must also have demonstrated contributions to the larger campus community, including efforts to promote diversity, equal opportunity, inclusiveness, and UCSD Principles of Community.

The search committee's membership includes Christopher Charles, SIO; Gabriele Wienhausen, Biological Sciences; and Christopher Wills, Biological Sciences. Applications and nominations should be sent to my attention (MC 0043, abellis@ucsd.edu) by March 1, 2009.
