SUBJECT:    2009 Graduate Studies Commencement

Separate commencement ceremonies will be held on different dates at UCSD by each undergraduate college, the School of Medicine, the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, the Rady School of Management, and Graduate Studies.

We invite you to join us at the 2009 Graduate Studies Commencement, especially if one or more of your students will be graduating. Details for the ceremony and celebration are as follows:

DATE: Saturday, June 13, 2009

TIME: 10:30 A.M. (approximately 2.5 hours)

PLACE: RIMAC Arena

If you wish to take part in the commencement, please arrive at the RIMAC Green Room (Level One) by 9:45 A.M. to change into academic attire. Instructions for assembling for the processional will be provided at 10:10 A.M.

PROGRAM:

- Processional
- Welcoming remarks
- Commencement Address
- Presentation of California Teaching Credential Candidates
- Conferring of M.A., M.S., M.Eng., M.A.S. degrees
- Conferral of M.F.A. degrees and hooding of M.F.A.'s
- Conferral of Ph.D., D.M.A., and Ed.D. degrees and
hooding of Ph.D.'s, D.M.A.'s, and Ed.D.'s
- Recessional

RIMAC ARENA SEATING:

Department and Program Chairs will sit on the platform. Faculty, Graduate Degree Candidates, and Teaching Credential Candidates will sit in the chairs on the RIMAC Arena floor. Faculty Advisers of Ph.D., D.M.A., Ed.D. and M.F.A. candidates will sit with their students. Other faculty wishing to participate in the processional will sit behind the Teaching Credential Candidates on the arena floor. Guests will sit in the stands on each side of the Arena floor.

RECEPTION:

A reception will be held on the RIMAC north patio immediately following the ceremony.

REGALIA ATTIRE:

Caps and gowns are required of faculty who wish to participate in the commencement processional or are presenting candidates for degree conferral. If you do not own a cap and gown, it is important that you contact the Bookstore at extension 4-7323 or http://bookstore.ucsd.edu/friends/cag/ to reserve your regalia attire. The bookstore began taking orders March 2, 2009. There will be a $5 late fee for orders placed after April 5, 2009 and a $20 late fee for orders placed after April 30, 2009. The Bookstore cannot guarantee the correct school colors on late orders. Faculty must arrange to pick up their attire at the UCSD Bookstore.

PARKING:

Parking will be available at various locations on campus including the RIMAC Arena vicinity. Campus traffic is expected to be significant -- please allow additional time for parking.
