ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT SERVICES March 24, 2009
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
Admitted freshmen and their families will "Discover UC San Diego!" on Admit Day, Saturday, April 4, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. This event is an opportunity to showcase the UC San Diego campus, its academic departments, services and student organizations during the students' important college decision-making period. Admit Day typically draws as many as 15,000 visitors to UCSD for the day to attend presentations on a variety of university-related topics, visit the undergraduate colleges, talk with students and faculty, and tour the campus. The day begins with a series of Welcome Sessions in three locations at the Price Center. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, Dr. Penny Rue, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, and Dr. Barbara Sawrey, Associate Vice Chancellor, Undergraduate Education, will deliver the University Welcome. Visitors will also be greeted by the newly elected President of the UCSD Associated Students and other officers. Mae Brown, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services; Shirley Balbin-Stacher, Associate Director, Admissions and Relations with Schools; and Tricia Abdullah, Triton Center Manager, Admissions & Relations with School will lead the sessions. The six undergraduate colleges will then host guests in overview sessions designed to introduce students and their parents to the college and its academic and extracurricular opportunities. Each college also presents activities and events to give visitors a glimpse of college life, and offer newly admitted students a chance to chat with current students. Tours of the campus and residence halls will be held throughout the day, along with tours of RIMAC and several academic departments. Prospective students can meet representatives from academic departments, student support services, and student organizations at an Information Fair along Library Walk. Ongoing information sessions in Center Hall cover topics such as housing and dining services, money matters, academic majors, athletics and campus life. Faculty members from a variety of departments will discuss academic expectations, the many ways that students and faculty can interact, and opportunities for student involvement in faculty research. Admit Day offers an opportunity for admitted freshmen and their families to meet with UCSD faculty, staff, students and college administrators. It also provides the campus community with the chance to welcome newly admitted students to campus. For more information about Admit Day, please contact Shirley Balbin-Stacher at 534-0365.
