ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD
I invite members of our campus community to join in events planned for Earth Week, April 19-25, at UC San Diego. Earth Week has evolved from a celebration of nature to a call to action to live in a more environmentally sustainable manner. Campus Earth Week events will celebrate our impressive achievements in sustainability and will highlight our ongoing commitment to steward the Earth’s resources. To read about our achievements, including the installation of solar panels and our sustainability classes, visit the sustainability Web site: http://sustain.ucsd.edu This year’s Earth Week theme, “Extreme Green,” is a further reminder that UC San Diego, one of the greenest universities in the nation and a world leader in climate change research, is aggressively committed to sustainability through the development of alternative fuels, renewable energy sources, waste diversion, water conservation and green-building strategies. The series of Earth Week events, planned by our dedicated students and staff, includes some 20 activities, ranging from a huge trash sort that demonstrates how ordinary garbage is full of recyclable items, to a green job fair. There will be an eco-friendly fashion show and alternative transportation events. Throughout the week old computers, stereos and cell phones can be dropped at an “e-waste” center on campus. I encourage you to participate in Earth Week events. A complete listing of the week’s activities can be found at http://earthweek.ucsd.edu
