ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Transfer Admit Day, Saturday, May 9, 2009

The University of California, San Diego, hosts Transfer Admit Day for newly admitted transfer students and their families on Saturday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We expect approximately 3,000 - 4,000 students and family members to attend.

The purpose of Transfer Admit Day is to showcase the UC San Diego campus and the programs and services of interest to transfer students, helping them make their final college decisions for fall 2009. This event, co-hosted by UCSD's Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools and the All Campus Transfer Association (ACTA), is an opportunity for admitted transfer students to discover campus life through academic department presentations, workshops, campus tours, an information fair, and visits to their UCSD undergraduate colleges. Parking is free of charge for the day.p> Transfer Admit Day begins with Welcome Sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the Price Center Ballroom. The sessions will be led by Mae Brown, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and Penny Rue, Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs, will welcome everyone on behalf of the University. Visitors will also be greeted by David Nguyen, President of ACTA (All Campus Transfer Association).

Welcome programs and presentations at each of the six colleges introduce students to their colleges, staff members, and programs for transfer students.

An Information Fair along Library Walk and Town Square from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. gives students and families an opportunity to find out about organizations and services.

Mid-day workshops will cover popular topics, including career planning, graduate and professional school services, commuter student issues, financial aid, campus academic support services, and – new this year – on-campus housing.

Academic department representatives will present information on majors, academic expectations, and a number of academic opportunities. Our guests can meet with representatives from various campus support services and student organizations at the information fair.

Student-led campus tours will provide a closer look at the highlights of the campus. The tours leave from Library Walk four times during the day.

Transfer Admit Day provides students and their families with an inside look at the campus and the many services awaiting them at UCSD. All members of the campus community are encouraged to join in welcoming transfer students to UC San Diego on May 9.
