SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Parking Lot 751 Project

Project Description/Location:

Parking Lot 751 is located between the Perlman Medical Offices, Shiley Eye Center and the Moores Cancer Center. This parking lot provides patient and visitor parking for the East Campus Medical Center.

The project comprises modifications to Parking Lot 751 to add new parking spaces and improve traffic circulation. The renovations will include providing 40 new parking spaces complying with ADA parking requirements, and an additional 120 new standard parking spaces. The project will reduce the bus stop turn-around area, expand the parking lot size, and re-configure the controlled entrance and exit lanes from Campus Point Drive. The work will consist of demolition of parking lot areas and landscaping, earthwork grading and shaping, and construction of new parking lot areas. New features within the project limits will include a new medical campus walkway, new parking lot lighting, and new landscaping.

Immediate Impacts:

Beginning June 1, 2009, temporary construction fencing will be erected around the perimeter of the work areas for public safety. Four ADA parking spaces will be removed from service, and approximately 110 standard parking spaces will be removed from service during different construction phases of the project. Vehicular traffic into and out of the parking lot will remain continuous and be maintained for the duration of construction. Traffic circulation will be slightly impacted as construction fencing will require vehicles to turnaround or back up to exit aisles in some cases. Pedestrian movement will continue unimpeded with minor detours on temporary walkways as needed.

The Shuttle Stop for the Medical Center Shuttle and for the Coaster East Shuttle will be temporarily relocated to the walkway between the Moore’s Cancer Center and the Shiley Eye Center along Health Sciences Drive. The MTS bus stop at the turnaround will be temporarily relocated within its current vicinity at a final location to be determined by MTS.

Medical staff should be advised that their patients and visitors may experience minor delays in making their scheduled visits and appointments on time. Patients and visitors should be advised to allow extra time for parking and walking to their scheduled visits to the East Campus Medical Center.
