ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Town Hall - Opportunity for Input On UC Budget
Reduction Proposals

Although we recognize the severity of the global budget challenges and its effect on the University of California, UC San Diego is and will continue to be an extraordinary institution in the world's best public university system.

It is vital that the entire University community work together to maintain UC San Diego's excellence during these challenging times. To this end, we encourage you to join us for an open Town Hall meeting on Friday, June 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Ballroom A of the Price Center. We will provide an update on the state budget and its effect on UC San Diego and will discuss the new budget reduction proposals from the UC Office of the President. We are eager to hear your feedback regarding these budget reduction proposals from the UC Office of the President. This is an opportunity for faculty to communicate directly, share concerns, discuss ideas and ask questions about the budget.

A video of the Town Hall discussion will be available after the meeting on my Web site at http://www-chancellor.ucsd.edu

Faculty at Scripps Institution of Oceanography may attend the Friday Town Hall, but a separate Town Hall for SIO will be held on Thursday, June 18, in the Auditorium of Sumner Hall from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Faculty from the UCSD Health Sciences and Medical Center are welcome to attend the Town Hall on campus. However, a separate Town Hall meeting will be held on Friday, June 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Coral Room at Thornton Hospital. All Medical Center and Health Science faculty will receive a separate email with details.

In advance of the Town Hall, we encourage you to review the Office of President proposals on our budget line website at http://budgetline.ucsd.edu

We look forward to our discussion at the Town Hall. If you have any questions about the meeting, please contact Special Events and Protocol at 858.534.6386.
