CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

June 17, 2009

ALL STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Town Hall - Opportunity for Input On UC Budget
Reduction Proposals

Although we recognize the severity of the global budget challenges and its effect on the University of California, UC San Diego is and will continue to be an extraordinary institution in the world's best public university system.

It is vital that the entire University community work together to maintain UC San Diego's excellence during these challenging times. To this end, I encourage you to join me for an open Town Hall meeting tomorrow, June 18, from noon to 1 p.m. in Ballroom B of the Price Center. I will provide an update on the state budget and its effect on UC San Diego and will discuss the new budget reduction proposals from the UC Office of the President. I am eager to hear your feedback regarding these budget reduction proposals from the UC Office of the President. This is an opportunity for staff to communicate directly, share concerns, discuss ideas and ask questions about the budget.

A video of the Town Hall discussion will be available on Friday on my Web site at http://www-chancellor.ucsd.edu

In order to allow employees the opportunity to attend, I am authorizing one (1) hour of administrative leave with pay. Supervisors are asked to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties and patient care.

Staff at Scripps Institution of Oceanography may attend the noon Town Hall, but I will hold a separate Town Hall for SIO on Thursday, June 18, in the Auditorium of Sumner Hall from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Staff from the UCSD Health Sciences and Medical Center are welcome to attend the Town Hall on campus. However, I will hold a separate Town Hall meeting on Friday, June 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Coral Room at Thornton Hospital. All Medical Center and Health Science staff will receive a separate email with details.

In advance of the Town Hall, I encourage you to review the Office of President proposals on our budget line website at http://budgetline.ucsd.edu

I look forward to our discussion at the Town Halls. If you have any questions about the meeting, please contact Special Events and Protocol at 858.534.6386.
