CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE DEAN -
GRADUATE STUDIES

September 2, 2009

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Associate Dean of Graduate Studies

Following an in-depth campus review, I am delighted to announce that Professor Steven Cassedy (Literature) has been reappointed as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies for a five-year term, effective October 1, 2009. Professor Cassedy has made outstanding contributions to the quality of graduate education at UC San Diego, particularly with respect to the coordination of a regular cycle of external reviews of all of our graduate programs. We are blessed that he is willing to continue in this capacity.

Nevertheless, Professor Cassedy also maintains an active scholarly life in his role as a Professor in the Department of Literature. In order that he might complete a book project that has been oft-delayed by his multiple responsibilities, Professor Cassedy will be taking a sabbatical leave from October 1, 2009 until June 30, 2010. I am very fortunate that Professor Pamela Radcliff, from the Department of History, has agreed to serve as Acting Associate Dean of Graduate Studies during the period that Associate Dean Cassedy will be away. In addition to her distinguished career as a Spanish historian, Professor Radcliff has an outstanding record of teaching and service. She will assist me particularly in coordinating graduate program reviews as well as in the academic review process for general campus faculty. Please join me in welcoming her to her interim role in the Office of Graduate Studies.
