SUBJECT:    Senate-Administration Task Force on Budget

In response to the severe impact of the State budget crisis and the resulting drastic budget cuts to the University, a joint Senate-Administration Task Force on Budget has been established. The Task Force is charged with providing recommendations for sustaining UC San Diego’s academic excellence and stature as a world-class research university, while protecting our core mission of accessibility, teaching, and research through cost savings and increased efficiency, increased non-State revenues, and strong alignment of academic programs with institutional priorities. Senior Vice Chancellor Paul Drake and Professor Dan Donoghue (immediate past Chair of the Academic Senate) will serve as co-chairs of this Task Force. The target date for completion of the Task Force’s report is January 2010.

The Task Force membership includes:

SVC Paul Drake (Academic Affairs) Co-Chair
VC David Brenner (Health Sciences)
VC Art Ellis (Research Affairs)
VC Gary Matthews (Resource Management and Planning)
VC Penny Rue (Student Affairs)
Professor Dan Donoghue (Immediate Past Chair, Academic Senate) Co-Chair

Professor Stephen Cox (Literature)
Professor Ken Melville (SIO)
University Professor Roger Reynolds (Music)
Janice Klippel (Academic Affairs) Staff Consultant
