CONTINUITY AND EMERGENCY SERVICES

September 3, 2009

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (excluding UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:    September is Campus Preparedness Month

We are promoting September as campus preparedness month. Conditions continue to indicate a high-level of wild-land fire risk this year. Beyond the risk of wild-land fires, the campus is engaged in preparedness efforts concerning H1N1 and seasonal flu. We want all members of the campus community to prepare yourself, your staff, and your family for natural, technological and human caused emergencies.

This is an excellent opportunity to review with colleagues and family what to do in the event of an emergency. Please take time to review the campus Emergency Management Plan, your Department Emergency Action Plan, and your Personal Supplies Checklist for emergency events. Find details on each of these topics at:

http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/emergencyprep

In advance of a campus-wide emergency, managers and supervisors should identify and keep a list of those staff required to maintain essential support functions. Find out more about this process at:

http://www-bfs.ucsd.edu/emerg/emer_access.pdf

We also encourage you to enroll in the campus voicemail and text emergency notification system. Go to http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/emergencyphonereg to enroll. On Friday, September 25 there will be a test of the system and, if enrolled, you will receive a test message to your phone.

Please feel free to contact our offices regarding campus emergency preparedness efforts and to learn steps you can take to be better prepared for an emergency.
