I am pleased to announce the appointment of Min Yao as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Administrative Computing and Telecommunications effective February 1, 2011. Dr. Yao has over fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in management of information technology services in the United States and Canada, primarily in higher education. He is currently serving as the Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Florida International University, a position he has held for the past four years. In this capacity he provides leadership for all aspects of the University's technology services, including academic computing, high-speed research network services, Web-assisted courses, instructional technology and media services, administrative computing and ERP systems, telecommunications and network, user support services, and information technology security. Dr. Yao is highly regarded for both his technical expertise and effective leadership skills. He has a solid track record of working collaboratively to build consensus and get technology projects completed on time and on budget. Under his leadership at Florida International University IT services were enhanced while costs were reduced by streamlining and consolidating IT services and servers, standardizing hardware and software applications, re-negotiating service contracts with vendors, and consolidating email systems. As Assistant Vice Chancellor, Dr. Yao will be responsible for meeting UC San Diego's core administrative information systems, network, and telecommunications needs and will serve as the the chief enterprise technology officer for the campus.
