CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS December 3, 2010
ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UCSD
We are pleased to invite you to a Research Open House marking the 10th anniversary of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), a partnership of UC San Diego and UC Irvine. The doors of Atkinson Hall will open to the campus community and the public from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, for a glimpse behind-the-scenes at the multidisciplinary research unit that has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence in ten short years. During the Research Open House, there will be dozens of parallel talks by leading Calit2 scientists, engineers and artists, as well as technology demos throughout the building and poster sessions featuring the work of graduate and undergraduate students. From 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the public is invited to a series of media and music performances – live and on video – of works by Calit2’s two Composers in Residence, Rand Steiger and Roger Reynolds (who held the post from 2007 to earlier this year). To cap the celebration, Calit2 will host its first Digital Cinema Showcase of short films and animations produced by UCSD faculty, alumni, staff and students in the 4K digital cinema format (at four times the resolution of high-definition TV). All activities throughout the day will take place in Atkinson Hall. We hope you can join us to celebrate this milestone for Calit2 and the campus, and to learn more about the amazing research activities and opportunities for collaboration within the institute on a wide range of local, national and international projects. For more information, you can visit the 10th Anniversary website at http://10th.calit2.net. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
