SUBJECT:    Proposed Revisions to PPM 230-10, Academic Leave Policy

I am pleased to submit for formal campus review proposed revisions to UCSD Policy and Procedure Manual (PPM) Section 230-10, the UCSD policy on academic leaves. The proposed revised policy and a summary of the revisions are available at:

http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/aps/policydev/policiesunderreview.htm

A significant effort has been made to improve PPM 230-10 through clarification in policy of existing campus practice; incorporation of changes made to the UC-wide Academic Personnel Manual (APM); removal of outdated, inaccurate, or duplicated information; and non-substantive, technical editing.

The revisions also modify the extended leave policy. These revisions include a proposed "Change in Work Location" policy that would allow deans to approve a faculty member's absence from campus for up to 60 consecutive service days without forfeiture of sabbatical credits under certain conditions when the faculty member will continue to perform all his or her duties from the remote location.

If you have any comments or questions regarding the proposed revisions to PPM 230-10, please contact Kelly Lindlar, Director of Academic Policy Development, Academic Personnel Services, at klindlar@ucsd.edu no later than June 14, 2010.
