SUBJECT:    Earth Week April 19 through 23, 2010

Members of the UC San Diego community will have an opportunity to celebrate Earth Week, starting today with series of events that allow us to recognize our achievements in sustainability and show our commitment to understanding the scientific, economic, and social issues involved in the sustainable stewardship of planet Earth in the 21st century.

The celebrations on campus build on our historically strong innovative, environmentally oriented research dating back to the groundbreaking work on climate change by Roger Revelle and David Keeling and show how UC San Diego continues to be a leader when it comes to finding sustainable solutions.

This year’s theme, E.A.R.T.H. Environment, Awareness, Restoration, Teaching Healing, reflects our commitment to sustainability and spreading awareness about how UC San Diego and San Diego communities can help preserve resources and lessen negative impact on the planet. The series of events April 19 through 23 planned by our dedicated students and staff, include activities ranging from a trash sort to a green job fair and clean car show.

From Tuesday through Thursday old computers, stereos and cell phones can be dropped an at “e-waste” center on campus.

As your schedule permits, I encourage you to participate in Earth Week events. A complete listing of the week’s activities can be found at http://earthweek.ucsd.edu
