ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR - May 10, 2010
ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD
Eligible employees covered under the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay are those who serve on active military duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Noble Eagle, and Operation Iraqi Freedom campaigns, and any other campaigns in connection with the national state of emergency declared in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Under the policy, the University provides eligible employees with supplemental payments equal to the difference between the employees' University base pay and their military pay and allowances until the end of an employee's active military duty, or until June 30, 2010, whichever comes first. The University also continues to pay the UC contribution to employees' health plan premiums while an employee is eligible for benefits under the policy. Benefits provided under the policy are subject to a two-year lifetime limit. Employees who are not eligible for supplemental payments because their military pay and allowances exceed their University wages may elect to continue UC health plan coverage while on military leave and the University will continue to pay the UC contribution to those plans. It is the University's desire to assist, to the extent possible, employees who are called to active military duty during these campaigns. Therefore, the University has proposed that the Policy be renewed for a two-year period, effective July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2012. Revised Implementation Guidelines and Extended Military Leave Q&A's reflecting the proposed two-year extension will be posted under "Proposed Policies and Programs" at the following URL: http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/employees/policies_employee_labor_relations Academic personnel who wish to comment on the proposal may e-mail their comments to Academic Personnel at academicpersonnel@ucsd.edu while staff personnel may e-mail their comments to the Human Resources Department at employeerelations@ucsd.edu. Comments should be provided by May 21, 2010.
