SUBJECT:	Reappointment of Mark Thiemens as Dean of the Division of
	Physical Sciences

I am pleased to announce that, subsequent to a successful five-year review, Chancellor Fox and I have reappointed Mark Thiemens as Dean of the Division of Physical Sciences. Dean Thiemens has provided outstanding leadership to the Division of Physical Sciences for the past a decade. He has made significant contributions to strengthening the quality and increasing the visibility of the division. Under his leadership, several excellent junior and senior faculty have been recruited and retained. He has also worked to promote his junior and senior colleagues for recognition and awards for their outstanding research accomplishments, both at the campus and national level. According to the review committee, “Dean Thiemens has a strong commitment to excellence in the appointment and advancement of faculty, which creates an atmosphere and tradition that is good for the long-term success of the Division of Physical Sciences.

We are enormously pleased that the Division of Physical Sciences and the campus will continue to benefit from Dean Thiemens’s outstanding leadership. Chancellor Fox and I very much appreciate the review committee members’ thorough work, as well as their insightful suggestions as the division moves forward.
