Learn-At-Lunch: M.A.D. For Teens

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) and the UCSD Staff Association are pleased to present the July 2010 Learn-At-Lunch Program featuring Gina Simmons, Ph.D., Co-Director, Schneider Family Services.

If you are looking for tips to cope with or handle an angry adolescent, then this Learn-At-Lunch is for you. This presentation by Dr. Simmons will provide an overview of anger management strategies when working with adolescents, followed by a question and answer period. These anger management strategies include:

- A discussion of the unique characteristics of the adolescent brain
- Mood disorders and their effect on adolescent anger
- Cognitive behavior methods that work with angry teens
- Effective communication techniques for diffusing anger

Gina Simmons, Ph.D. is co-director of Schneider Family Services, and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 24 years of experience providing counseling and consulting services for organizations, individuals, and families in San Diego County. She developed the effective Manage Anger Daily (M.A.D.) For Teens program which helps teenagers learn to express their anger in appropriate ways.

Dr. Simmons is certified in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing through National Trauma Services. She has provided consulting, training, and debriefing services for numerous organizations in the San Diego County area.

A member of the Employee Assistance Professional Association (EAPA) since 1991, Dr. Simmons has served as the chair of the Treatment Committee, and has provided speaking, training, and coordinating services for several EAPA events. She is adjunct faculty in psychology for San Diego City College and provides community service education programs throughout San Diego.
