SUBJECT: September is Campus Preparedness Month

We are promoting September as campus preparedness month. Conditions continue to indicate a high level of wildfire risk this year and we face the ever-present danger of a major earthquake occurring in Southern California. To address the impact of a catastrophic earthquake to our campus community, we are currently engaged in earthquake preparedness efforts as part of a statewide effort known as The Great Shakeout. On October 19th the campus will conduct an earthquake based response and recovery exercise. Now is the time to learn what you can do to be prepared. Find out how you can get involved in this statewide effort to increase earthquake preparedness at: http://www.shakeout.org/

Department managers and supervisors should take advantage of campus preparedness month as an opportunity to develop departmental continuity plans which address post-emergency recovery. Find out more about this process by contacting Neal Atkinson, Continuity Manager, at natkinson@ucsd.edu.

We also encourage all members of our campus community to enroll in the campus voicemail and text emergency notification system, Triton Alert. Go to http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/emergencyphonereg to enroll. Campus leaders will use this system to notify you in the event of an emergency affecting campus.

Please feel free to contact our office regarding campus emergency preparedness efforts and to learn steps you can take to be better prepared for any emergency.
