SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE - Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Marine Ecosystem Sensing, Observation and Modeling (MESOM) Laboratory and the New NOAA SWFC Laboratory

Project Description/Location:
The Marine Ecosystem Sensing, Observation and Modeling (MESOM) Laboratory on the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus, is a new 3 story, 41,000 GSF building that started construction on August 15, 2011. This new building will take the place of Parking Lots P012 and P013 adjacent to Isaacs Hall along Biological Grade Drive. Completion of the project is scheduled for October 16, 2012. During that time Biological Grade at La Jolla Shores Drive will be open, but all should be aware that many large trucks will be using the La Jolla Shores Drive exit.

Immediate Street Impacts:
Construction traffic for the MESOM project will continue to use Biological Grade at La Jolla Shores Drive. Due to an unexpected condition, Biological Grade will continue to have one lane closed through October 28, with periodic interruptions to the traffic flow in November and December due to MESOM construction material deliveries between 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Detours and signage will be provided directing both vehicles and pedestrians around the impacted area. Flagmen will also be present to direct traffic. Signage illustrating alternate paths of pedestrian travel will be provided. Updates will continue to be provided throughout the construction period.
