On October 18, 2011 the U.S. Postal Service made the announcement to increase postal rates for certain types of mail, effective January 22, 2012. The rate for the first ounce of First Class Mail delivered in the United States is increasing by one cent to 45 cents. However, rates for additional ounces of First Class Mail will remain unchanged at twenty cents. Domestic postcards will increase three cents, to 32 cents. Postcards and letters to Canada and Mexico are increasing by five cents, to 85 cents. All other countries will increase by seven cents, to $1.05. Prices also will change for other mailing services, including Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services and Extra Services. USPS's announcement does not affect Express Mail and Priority Mail prices.
