The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) is being conducted by the federal government at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. During this period, regularly scheduled television, radio, cable and satellite broadcasts will be interrupted as the system is tested. The test will last about 30 seconds. This event is just a test, and not a real emergency alert. The national Emergency Alert System is an alert and warning system that can be activated by the president, if needed, to provide information to the American public during emergencies. In conjunction with this test, we encourage all members of our campus community to enroll in the campus voicemail and text emergency notification system; Triton Alert. Go to http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/emergencyphonereg to enroll. Campus leaders will use this system to notify you in the event of an emergency affecting campus. Please feel free to contact our office regarding campus emergency preparedness efforts and to learn steps you can take to be better prepared for any emergency.
