SUBJECT:    Founders' Celebration at UC San Diego

UC San Diego will carry on a new tradition this year – the celebration of our Founders' Day – which began last year with our 50th anniversary commemoration. This year, the Founders' Celebration will be a three-day event.

The first event will be a Founders' Innovation Symposium on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Campus visionary academic leaders will talk about new transformative, interdisciplinary initiatives that are shaping the campus' future in education and research.

Our special Founders' Day commemoration – which marks our official anniversary – will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 in our Town Square, with a brief program at noon. The event is open to the entire campus community. Participants will be treated to a street festival-type atmosphere with music, affinity booths and free food samples from local food trucks. Later in the evening, Associated Students Concerts & Events will host Hullabaloo in the center of campus. Hullabaloo, planned by undergraduate students for their peers and drawing on funding from the Associated Students, is free but requires a valid student ID. For more information, including restrictions, see http://hullabaloo.ucsd.edu/.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, we'll hold a Founders' Dinner and five Chancellor's Medals will be awarded at the event. For more information on our Founders' celebration and to register for events, visit http://learnlive.ucsd.edu.

In order to allow employees the opportunity to attend Founders' Celebration events, two hours of administrative leave with pay has been approved. All managers and supervisors may allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.

If you have any questions about the Founders' Celebration, please call (858) 534-6386.
