SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT - Jacobs Medical Center Bed Tower Construction Start and Lot P753 Closure

Project Description/Location:

Construction of the Jacobs Medical Center Bed Tower will begin on January 3, 2012. The construction site is directly west of Thornton Hospital and east of the new Office Building. The Jacobs Medical Center Project is a 10-story above grade inpatient bed tower with two basement levels totaling approximately 509,000 square feet. This project is an expansion of the existing Thornton Hospital and will add 245 patient rooms to the facility. The new bed tower is comprised of three specialty hospitals: Hospital for Advanced Surgery, Hospital for Cancer Care, and Hospital for Women & Infants.

Immediate Developments:

Parking lot P753 (behind Thornton Hospital) will be closed as of January 3, 2012. The emergency patient parking has been relocated to the surface parking lot on the east side of the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. All displaced “A” permit and disabled parking will be temporarily relocated to the street level of the West parking structure.

Medical Center Drive West will be closed to through traffic. The loop road (west of the new office building) will be open to two-way traffic. For those walking from the new office building to Thornton Hospital, please utilize the sidewalk along Medical Center Drive North and enter the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center through the north door and use the main corridor inside Thornton Hospital.

Heavy Construction activity will continue along Medical Center Drive (South) and thus all drivers are encouraged to utilize Medical Center Drive North. Pedestrian access will no longer be available in this area.
