ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    50th Anniversary Signature Event – Innovation Day Expo and
Symposia (IDEaS)

Innovation is central to who we are and what we do at UC San Diego. From the university’s founders to our current faculty, staff and students, the desire to explore, create and achieve is a common bond we share.

This spirit of innovation inspired our upcoming signature 50th anniversary event – Innovation Day Expo and Symposia (IDEaS) – which is free and open to the public. You are invited to experience the exciting advancements, breakthroughs, and social and cultural innovations that have emerged from UC San Diego.

The symposia — held Tuesday, February 22, through Thursday, February 24 — will include dynamic talks by groundbreaking innovators in the arts, medicine, science, technology and social justice. For topics, symposia times and registration, please visit http://www.50th.ucsd.edu

The Innovation Day Expo will take place Friday, February 25, from 3 to 7 p.m. and will feature hands-on exhibits. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage and network with the innovators and industry leaders. Kip Fulbeck, a UC San Diego alumnus and world-renowned spoken word artist, filmmaker and author, will give the keynote address. To register for the Innovation Day Expo, please visit http://www.boxoffice.ucsd.edu

In order to attend this signature event, I am approving 2 hours of administrative leave with pay, and I ask supervisors to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

I hope you will join us to celebrate 50 years of innovation at UC San Diego.
