ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UCSD
In response to substantial and continuing budget cuts, the Libraries will be closing the Medical Center Library in Hillcrest effective April 1, 2011. On that date, the Libraries will: close the facility at Hillcrest, stop physical delivery of library items to and from the main campus, reassign staff to positions in other libraries, and cease clinical support services. If you have questions about the Medical Center Library's closing, please contact Melissa Just, director of the Biomedical Library at mjust@ucsd.edu. As many of you know, Governor Brown has proposed severe cuts to the University of California's budget, which will have a significant impact on the UC San Diego campus, including the UCSD Libraries. In addition to these anticipated cuts, the Libraries have already absorbed cuts of nearly $5 million, which has forced us to rethink how we deliver resources and services to members of the campus community. As we continue to consider strategies for how best to respond to the budget cuts, our greatest attention will remain focused on trying to ensure the continued availability of those information resources and services that are essential to meeting the needs of the campus community and advancing the university's research, teaching, and public service missions. We at the Libraries appreciate your understanding and support and regret any inconvenience these actions causes.
