ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Transfer Admit Day, Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Newly admitted transfer students and their families are invited to the UC San Diego campus for Transfer Admit Day on Saturday, May 7, 2011. This day-long program typically draws as many as 5,000 visitors to the campus.

The purpose of Transfer Admit Day is to showcase the UC San Diego campus and the programs and services of interest to new transfer students, helping them make their final college decisions for Fall 2011. Hosted by UCSD's Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools, this event is an opportunity for admitted transfer students to discover campus life through academic department presentations, workshops, campus tours, housing tours, an Information Fair, and programs at their UCSD undergraduate colleges. Parking is free of charge for the day.

Transfer Admit Day begins with Welcome Sessions at 9:00 a.m. or at 10:00 a.m. in the Price Center. Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs Penny Rue and Barbara Sawrey, Associate Vice Chancellor, Undergraduate Education, will welcome everyone on behalf of the University. Visitors will also hear from one of our college ambassadors in the UCSD Admissions tour guide program who are themselves transfer students.

Welcome programs and presentations at each of the six colleges introduce students to their college neighborhoods, to the staff members, and to programs especially geared to transfer students.

Library Walk and Town Square are the sites for Information Fairs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. where visitors get a chance to find out about student organizations and support services, listen to the UCSD Pep Band, and enjoy free ice pops handed out by staff members and volunteers. Performances by several student groups will be held in Price Center Plaza from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m.

Mid-day workshops will cover popular topics, including commuter student issues, financial aid, programs abroad, campus academic support services, research and internship opportunities, and services for students with disabilities.

Academic department representatives will present information on majors, academic expectations, and a number of academic opportunities. Our guests can meet with representatives from various campus support services and student organizations at the information fair.

Student-led campus tours will provide a closer look at the highlights of the campus. The tours leave from Library Walk throughout the day, with special Early Bird Tours at 7:30 and 8:00 a.m.

The campus community centers, JSOE's IDEA Center, and the Commuter Student Service office are hosting open-houses.

The day wraps up with the meet-and-greet social sponsored by the All-Campus Transfer Association.

The welcome sessions will be hosted by Mae Brown, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services and Gregory Sneed, Deputy Director, Admissions and Relations with Schools.

Transfer Admit Day provides students and their families with an inside look at the campus and the many services and opportunities awaiting them at UC San Diego. All members of the campus community are encouraged to join in welcoming transfer students to our campus on May 7.
