I am pleased to invite applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel and Resources (AVC-AP&R). This new position merges many of the responsibilities of the current Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Resources position with those of the vacant position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel and Resources will serve as a senior advisor to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Associate VC will advise the EVC on academic personnel matters including the academic personnel appointment and promotion review process. The Associate VC will also have responsibility for planning and overseeing the implementation of new campus academic programs, policies, and initiatives, and will provide leadership in the planning of resources to meet programmatic and capital program goals, developing the State Capital Improvement Plan, and overseeing the use of technology-enhanced instruction. In order to qualify for the position of AVC-AP&R, a candidate must hold a tenured appointment in one of UC San Diego's academic departments. The AVC-AP&R will be appointed for a five-year term, renewable following appropriate review. The percentage of time is open to negotiation. ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR ACADEMIC PERSONNEL AND RESOURCES POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Also available on the Academic Affairs website: The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel and Resources serves as a senior advisor to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Associate VC will advise the EVC on academic personnel matters including the academic personnel appointment and promotion review process. The Associate VC will also have responsibility for planning and overseeing the implementation of new campus academic programs, policies, and initiatives, and will provide leadership in the planning of resources to meet programmatic and capital program goals, developing the State Capital Improvement Plan, and overseeing the use of technology-enhanced instruction. Specific responsibilities include: Academic Planning, Resource Allocations, and Financial Management & Planning: *Provides leadership in overall campus academic planning and evaluates resource issues related to proposals for new programs. Initiates, plans, and proposes new policies to advance academic programs. *Develops strategic and long-range resource plans. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of short- and long-range financial plans for supporting General Campus programs and activities. *Assists in the planning and budget process and advises the EVC on faculty FTE allocations and other resources allocations. *Provides leadership in the development of integrated multi-year plans for permanent faculty hiring. *Serves as a standing consultant to the Program Review Committee (PRC), the main body advising the EVC on all matters pertaining to resource allocations. Chairs resource allocation subcommittees of the PRC. Instructional Technology: *Develops short- and long-range plans for technology-enhanced instruction and the supporting infrastructure. *Fosters development of new instructional technology initiatives. *Ensures coordination of instructional technology initiatives with ACMS, the University Library, etc. *Oversees Academic Computing and Media Services. Space and Capital Program: *Provides leadership in the planning and acquisition of resources to meet short- and long-range capital program goals for the General Campus. Oversees the management and utilization of General Campus space and the campus's general assignable classrooms. *Serves as a member of the Capital Outlay and Space Advisory Committee, a broadly constituted campus committee that deliberates and proposed UCSD's five-year capital improvement program for inclusion in the University of California's CIP. Chairs building advisory committees for General Campus projects that are of a specialized nature or involve several or all academic divisions. *Chairs the UCSD PRC Space & Capital Subcommittee. Academic Personnel: *Serves as a principal advisor to the EVC on academic personnel matters, including on the academic personnel appointment and promotion review process. *Plans and oversees the implementation of new campus academic personnel programs, initiatives, policies, and processes. Other: *Promotes an environment in which maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct is understood to be a primary responsibility. *Acts as a liaison for the EVC with Academic Senate Committees. *Actively supports the EVC and campus efforts to promote diversity, equal opportunity, inclusion, and the Principles of Community. *Serves and represents the EVC on campus ad hoc, task forces, and systemwide committees as needed. *Represents the EVC and/or the campus to the UC Office of the President on academic personnel or resource allocation and related policy issues. QUALIFICATIONS: *Tenured UCSD faculty member at the full professor level. *Demonstrated experience as a campus administrator. *Possess a distinguished record of scholarly achievement. *Possess demonstrated leadership in fostering academic excellence. *Knowledge of academic program needs and relevant policies and procedures for planning and analysis. *Knowledge of educational facility planning, space planning, space utilization, and capital funding mechanisms. *Experience in strategic planning, including development of planning tools and guidelines, and oversight and documentation of the planning process. *Ability to credibly, reliably, effectively, and tactfully represent the Executive Vice Chancellor to campus and external constituencies. *Possess interpersonal skills to work effectively in an environment of participatory governance that includes faculty, staff, and other campus and University administrators. *Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and governance of UCSD and the University of California. *Commitment to and demonstrated contributions to the larger campus community, including efforts to promote diversity, equal opportunity, inclusion, and UCSD Principles of Community. |
