SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT - Structural and Materials Engineering
Building – Utility Work

Project Description/Location:

The Structural and Materials Engineering Building that is under construction south of Matthews Lane and Voigt Drive and west and north of Lyman Lane as it curves at its eastern most end will provide 110,000 ASF of additional instructional and research space for the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Department of Visual Arts. During the summer utility work will be undertaken in Matthews Lane.

Immediate Street Impacts:

Beginning June 13th and continuing until August 8th, 2011 a trench will be cut across Matthews Lane north of the Project to install utilities. At times when traffic will be reduced to one lane flagmen will be on-site to direct traffic. The entrance to Parking Lot P508 will be inaccessible at various times during this period, however a new temporary entrance will provide access to the lot per the attached graphic. Reserved and handicap accessible parking spaces in the lot will not be impacted. It is anticipated that performing the work during this time period will have the least impact to Campus circulation.

If you have any questions, please contact project manager Jay W. Smith at jwsmith@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-5343; or project specialist Analyn Cates at acates@ucsd.edu or (858) 822-3704. We greatly appreciate your patience during these construction activities. Please view the area map at:
