We've expanded the highly successful UC San Diego mobile application to be available on any mobile device with Internet access. Find buildings and pinpoint them on a map. Look up students, staff, and faculty. Watch videos from the UC San Diego Youtube channel. Browse through campus news sources. Listen to course podcasts. Browse scheduled classes and much more! UC San Diego was one of the first academic institutions to establish a mobile presence in 2009. This was accomplished by contracting with a vendor to build device -specific native applications (iPhone and BlackBerry) and a rudimentary device agnostic mobile website. The campus has now adopted the Mobile Web Framework (MWF), originally developed at UCLA. The framework is a cross-platform web framework that utilizes mobile web standards, semantic markup, and a robust presentation layer that allows applications to call a single set of markup and present mobile web applications in a way that is compatible with a multitude of devices including iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and others. In addition to UC San Diego and UCLA, the MWF is also being used to power mobile websites at UC Berkeley, UCSF, and UC Riverside. Other UC schools are on the horizon. This grassroots effort shows the power of collaboration across the UC campuses. The links and information included on http://m.ucsd.edu/ are designed to provide mobile access to a widespread audience. What you see today is only the beginning. By adopting the MWF, UC San Diego is poised to roll out new functionality at a rapid pace. Contacts: - Brett Pollak (Administrative) at bpollak@ucsd.edu - Mojgan Amini (Technical) at maamini@ucsd.edu
