SUBJECT:    Assistant Dean for Academic Business Relations, School of Medicine, Health Sciences Retirement Announcement

After many years of outstanding service as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Assistant Dean for Academic Business Relations at the School of Medicine, Sharon Letter has announced her decision to retire from UCSD effective July 1, 2011. She will be greatly missed as a friend, colleague and mentor by many across the campus.

Sharon joined UCSD in 1981 and spent all 30+ years in the School of Medicine, first working in the Departments of Neurosciences and Surgery, then in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office, and finally in the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences Office.

Her tenure coincided with tremendous growth in the size of the School of Medicine faculty where her contributions have been endless. Some of her recent contributions have been providing essential training and support for staff, including a series of classes on academic personnel topics as well as the initiation of an Academic Affairs Internship in the School of Medicine. Sharon has participated on several important campus committees and initiatives and has always been the “go to” person on all academic personnel policies and procedures.

Throughout her tenure, Sharon has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Academic Affairs Office met the School of Medicine’s ever-changing needs.

Please join me in offering heartfelt thanks to Sharon for her exemplary service and in wishing her the best in her future endeavors.

Sincerely,

David A. Brenner
Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences
Dean, UC San Diego School of Medicine
