UC San Diego Veterans Association Annual Recognition Celebration

I am pleased to announce the 13th Annual UC San Diego Veterans Association Recognition Ceremony at which our faculty, staff and students will honor veterans and the members of our Armed Forces.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2012, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. in UC San Diego’s Supercomputer Center Auditorium. The event is open to the public and light refreshments will be served immediately following the celebration. Our UCSD Veteran of the Year, Carlos Molina, will be honored and each veteran in attendance will be recognized.

This year’s celebration will acknowledge the dedication and contributions of our military and veteran groundbreakers and trailblazers. Honored guests include Deputy Secretary of CalVets, Mark Lennon, UCSD Alumni and US Army Veteran who will give the Welcome Address and present UCSD with a proclamation from the Governor’s office, USMC Retired Lieutenant Colonel Jack Harkins from the United Veterans Council, Veterans Week San Diego, and member of the Board of Directors for the San Diego Veterans Museum & Memorial Center will be the Guest Speaker.

To support the Veterans Association Recognition Celebration, I am approving one hour of administrative leave with pay. I ask supervisors to allow employees to attend as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required duties or patient care.
