Founders' Celebration and Investiture

I invite all campus members to attend this year's annual Founders' Celebration on Friday, Nov. 16. There will be three separate events to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of UC San Diego's establishment.

The Founders' Day festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Town Square and the program will include my investiture. Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy live music, free food and numerous affinity booths.

Our Founders' Symposium will be held at 5 p.m. and will feature six 10-minute talks from UC San Diego faculty members. They will talk about their world-changing research happening on our campus. Although the Symposium is sold out, stand-by registration is available.

Later in the evening, from 8 p.m. to midnight, AS Concerts & Events will host Hullabaloo in the center of campus; the event will feature large-scale carnival rides and a dance stage. In order to allow employees the opportunity to attend Founders' Celebration events, two hours of administrative leave with pay has been approved. All managers and supervisors are encouraged to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.
