The Dean, reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, provides academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership to the Division of Biological Sciences, which includes four academic sections: Cell and Developmental Biology; Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution; Molecular Biology; and Neurobiology. The Dean works closely with the other divisional deans and the Vice Chancellor for Research to oversee a large number of organized research units and research centers, many of which are listed at: http://biology.ucsd.edu/bioresearch/initiatives-units.html Successful candidates should have prior experience in academic administration including a proven track record in fundraising. Candidates must also have a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service appropriate for appointment as a tenured senior professor at UC San Diego. The ideal candidate will have strong demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity. The Dean will hold the Richard C. Atkinson Chair in the Biological Sciences and will be appointed to serve at 100% time. A campus notice will follow in early January to announce the composition of the Search Advisory Committee and the name of the search firm engaged to assist with this important recruitment.
