February 1, 2012
Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in UC San Diego’s annual campus celebration of Black History Month throughout the month of February. The important observance and celebration of diversity will feature a series of programs and activities that include poetry, speakers and food. UC San Diego’s theme for this year’s celebration is “Black Women in American History––Our History, Our Journey, Our Legacy.”
To view the numerous events that will honor and celebrate African and
African-American history, culture and achievements, visit: All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. In recognition of this annual event, I am approving two hours of administrative leave with pay for employees to attend a UC San Diego Black History Month activity. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care. On behalf of the campus community, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the members of the UC San Diego Black History Month Planning Committee for their work on this celebration.
