SUBJECT:    Use of Library Collections and Services Survey

As it did in 2006-2007, the campus is conducting a twelve-month survey of the use of library collections and services. The survey, which has both online and paper components, is part of an analysis the campus is conducting in preparation for engaging with the federal government in discussions about our indirect cost rate. Its results will have direct implications for the Library’s budget, and that of other agencies on campus. Your responses are, therefore, especially critical as we in the Library do our best, in these times of continuing budget pressure, to allocate our resources mindfully and strategically.

The online survey will appear for two hours each month (at different times each month), every time you access designated websites or use selected library services. The two-question survey should take less than one minute to answer, after which you will be connected to the website or service you have requested.

The paper survey will be given out in the two campus library buildings (Biomed and Geisel) also for two hours each month. The survey will be handed out at the door and recipients will be asked to return the completed survey when they exit the building. This two-pronged survey methodology has been designed to comply with requirements for cost analyses of this type.

Thank you in advance for your patience and for your help in completing the survey, should you receive it. A high response rate will help us to ensure that we receive adequate support for campus contributions to funded research projects.
