RESEARCH
OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR - August 3, 2012
ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO
On August 6th, the University of California will launch an online Compliance and Conflict of Interest Briefing for all researchers who were paid with any extramural grant or contract funds (regardless of private, federal, state, or other source of funds) in one or more months of FY11-12. The briefing fulfills two mandatory requirements in a manner that minimizes impacts to researchers. One is the UC requirement that all researchers be trained periodically to recognize and deal with ethical issues and conflict of interest situations that may arise during their work. The briefing also satisfies the COI training requirement recently imposed by agencies including the National Institutes of Health for proposals submitted on or after August 24, 2012. The Briefing, developed by a UC team of faculty and research staffs, takes about 40-60 minutes to complete. The Briefing can be taken on any computer with Internet access and does not need to be completed in one sitting. As a UCSD researcher, you will receive an email from the UCSD Learning Center with a personalized link that will direct you to the new online training. The University of California requires that you complete the Compliance and Conflict of Interest Briefing by September 30, 2012. This requirement is not interchangeable with any other conflict of interest or ethics training you may have already taken. Additional information regarding the Compliance and Conflict of Interest Briefing can be found at http://research.ucsd.edu/ComplianceBriefingFAQ.htm. We greatly appreciate your time and attention to this training. If you have any questions about the briefing, please contact Valerie Dixon (vdixon@ucsd.edu).
