ACADEMIC SENATE FACULTY
We are pleased to announce the call for Summer 2014 Global Seminars. The Academic Senate approved the Global Seminar program as a permanent study abroad offering for UC San Diego during fall 2009. The Global Seminar program offers Academic Senate faculty the opportunity to teach two four-unit courses in an international location during a five-week summer session, with the benefit of full logistical support through the Programs Abroad Office. Over forty seminars have been taught abroad by UC San Diego faculty since the Global Seminars program began in Summer 2008. Planning is well underway for up to fourteen Global Seminars in twelve cities (Amman, Athens, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Cadiz, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Istanbul, London, Paris, Rome, and Toledo) during Summer 2013, and the Programs Abroad Office hopes to offer another compelling selection of seminars in Summer 2014. Detailed program information and an application may be found on the faculty page of the Programs Abroad Office website at: http://icenter.ucsd.edu/pao/faculty/GSRFP.html To learn more about current Global Seminar offerings for this summer, visit the student web page at: http://globalseminar.ucsd.edu Together with Professor Sharon Rose, Faculty Director of Programs Abroad, and Dr. Kirk Simmons, Dean of the International Center, we invite you to submit a proposal to lead a Global Seminar in Summer 2014. A selection committee will review proposals with an aim to offer students a range of destinations, disciplines, and costs. Proposals received by Monday, April 15, 2013 will be considered for the Summer 2014 program. Two information sessions about these faculty-led Global Seminar programs will be held. One will be held on Wednesday, February 13 from 4:00-5:00 PM and the other is on Wednesday February 27 from 1:00-2:00 PM. The information sessions will be held in the International Center Oceanids Pavilion. Speakers will include faculty who have previously taught Global Seminars and Jim Galvin, Director of Opportunities Abroad and Faculty-Led Programs. Please contact Jim Galvin (x4-7857 or jgalvin@ucsd.edu) with any questions regarding Global Seminars, Kirk Simmons (x4-0685 or kesimmons@mail.ucsd.edu) with international education questions or Kelly O'Sullivan (x2-6726 or kosullivan@ucsd.edu) with study abroad questions.
