Student Veterans Resource Center Dedication Ceremony Featuring 14th Annual Veteran of the Year Recognition

I am pleased to announce the Thursday, November 7, 2013 campus commemoration of Veterans Day, including the dedication of UC San Diego's Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) and awarding of the 14th Annual Veteran of the Year presented by the UC San Diego Veterans Association. The ceremonies to honor all veterans will take place on the west side patio of the Student Center from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. The event is open to the public.

Our UC San Diego Veteran of the Year, Billiekai Boughton, will be honored, in addition to outstanding veteran student, Richard Gilbert. The prestigious award honors and recognizes UC San Diego veterans who exemplify the campus' principles of community and who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service. As part of the annual event, each veteran and active duty member in attendance will be recognized.

To support the dedication of the new Student Veteran Resource Center and the Veteran of the Year recognition ceremony, I am approving one hour of administrative leave with pay. I ask supervisors to allow employees to attend as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required duties or patient care.
