Founders' Celebration 2013

I invite all campus members to attend Founders' Celebration 2013 to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of UC San Diego's founding. There will be three separate events spanning two days - Thursday, Nov. 14, and Friday, Nov. 15.

The celebration will kick off with our Founders' Symposium at 5 p.m. on Nov. 14. UC San Diego faculty members and graduate students will give 10-minute, TEDx-style talks about their world-changing research happening on our campus.

Founders' Day will be held on Nov. 15, beginning with a short program at 11:30 a.m. in Town Square. Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy live music, free food and numerous affinity booths.

On the evening of Nov. 15, AS Concerts & Events will host Hullabaloo in the center of campus from 8 to 11:45 p.m.; the event will feature large-scale carnival rides and a dance stage. In recognition of this annual event, I am approving two hours of administrative leave with pay that employees may apply to their attendance at the Founders' Celebration. Supervisors are asked to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
