UC San Diego is pleased to join San Diego State University, University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University in hosting the 2013 Kyoto Prize Symposium from March 12 through 14. As part of the symposium, recipients of the Kyoto Prize, Japan's highest private award for global achievement, will present lectures that are free and open to the public. One of the world's most distinguished molecular cell biologists and recipient of the 2012 Kyoto Prize in "Basic Sciences," Yoshinori Ohsumi, Ph.D., will speak at UC San Diego from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, in the Price Center East Ballroom. Dr. Ohsumi will discuss his groundbreaking research of autophagy, an intracellular cellular recycling system with potential to aid future treatments of conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and cancer. The Kyoto Prize Symposium will be a remarkable opportunity to hear from one of the world's most accomplished molecular cell biologists.
