FACILITIES DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION April 11, 2013
ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO
Project Description/Locations: As part of the SuperLoop project plan, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) are building new bus stations and improving traffic signals on the UC San Diego campus. Four new SuperLoop stations will be constructed: on the east and west sides of Medical Center Drive, and the north and south sides of Voigt Drive near Scripps Hospital. New traffic signals will be installed at Voigt Drive at Scripps Hospital, and on Gilman Drive (at Scholars/Osler, Library Walk, Myers, and Russell) incorporating transit signal priority to allow SuperLoop buses to move through traffic more efficiently and maintain schedule reliability. Surveying will begin April 22, and construction will take place between April and September 2013. Normal hours of construction will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; earlier start times or night work could be conducted with campus approval. SuperLoop buses will continue to use existing stops and the service schedule will not be affected by construction. Immediate Street Traffic, Bike Lane, and Pedestrian Impacts: Traffic control measures will be in place while lanes are narrowed at construction locations. One lane will remain open in each direction. Bike lanes will be impacted along Gilman, Voigt, and Medical Center Drives. Pedestrians may be directed to adjacent walkways during some phases of construction.
