SUBJECT:    General Campus Compensation Plan (GCCP) Trial

I am pleased to announce that UC San Diego, along with UC Irvine and UCLA, has been given permission to implement a General Campus Compensation Plan for a five-year trial period, effective July 1, 2013.

This trial program was developed in partnership with the UC San Diego and system-wide Academic Senate and, like the well-established Health Sciences Compensation Plan, will allow eligible faculty to utilize external fund sources to support a portion of their total UC salary.

For General Campus and SIO divisions and departments who have chosen to participate in this trial program, all Ladder-Rank and In-Residence faculty who meet the good standing and eligibility requirements will be members of the plan. Faculty are not required to negotiate an additional salary component if they do not wish to do so.

Faculty who wish to negotiate an additional salary component utilizing their external fund sources will be required to submit an annual proposal, which must be endorsed by the department chair and divisional dean and approved by the Executive Vice Chancellor. For this trial period, the Committee on Academic Personnel will also review the faculty proposals.

For faculty members whose proposals are approved, the total UC salary rate for the period of July 1 through June 30 will consist of the negotiated component plus the faculty member’s base salary (scale rate plus approved off-scale). Summer ninths will be paid at the total UC salary rate according to standard summer salary policies.

The UC San Diego Academic Senate and Administration will jointly monitor this compensation program to evaluate its effectiveness.

The UC San Diego implementation guidelines, proposal form, salary worksheet, and FAQ may be found at http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/aps/compensation/gccp.html
