Search Committee for Vice Chancellor – Advancement

With the increasing emphasis on philanthropy to ensure UC San Diego’s continued excellence in teaching, research, service and patient care, I am launching a search for Vice Chancellor - Advancement. The Vice Chancellor will lead our Development initiatives, as well as Alumni and Constituent Engagement, and the UC San Diego Foundation and Advancement Services.

I am very pleased that Julia Brown, UC San Diego Foundation Trustee and former Chair of the Board and Director of Targacept, Inc., has graciously agreed to co-chair the search committee with me. Other committee members include representatives from the donor and alumni communities and our faculty, staff and students. Dennis Barden and Manny Berger of Witt/Kieffer search consulting firm will assist the committee.

A member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the Vice Chancellor – Advancement is the senior fundraising executive for the campus and is responsible for assembling and developing a Development team that will plan and implement a major fundraising campaign to support initiatives identified in the strategic planning process. The Vice Chancellor is President and Trustee of the UC San Diego Foundation and has a fiduciary role in providing direction for a diverse and multifaceted fundraising enterprise that currently raises approximately $135 million per year. The successful candidate will have extensive management experience and will possess a substantial and record of progressive accomplishment in developing strategy and implementing development campaigns that inspire philanthropic support.
